20GB PS3 question, can this work?

So, I know that the PS3 20GB version has been can canceled. By I got this idea, and I want you to tell me if it’s possible or not.

Let’s say I buy the 20GB version, with backward compatibility of course, so I now have a PS3 which can play PS1 and PS2 games. Then, I take its hard drive out, and instead, put the samsung 250GB version.

Would that make me have a 200GB (’cause I heard the PS3 will only use 200GB out of the 250GB for some reason) PS3 that can play PS1 and PS2 games?

  1. Hey, it can work, its just not as simple as that.

firstly, the reason u wont get the full 250gb, is that the formatting process uses some of that space for basic formatting of the hdd (hard disk drive). same thing happens when u buy a PC online, and ask for 250gb of hdd, what u get is a bit less, because of the formatting of the drive.

try this link, for a step by step process on how to change out the hdd. [url is not allowed]

  2. You won’t have full 250GB but around 250GB.

And yes, this method will work.

Thing is, you’re missing out on WiFi and the grey/chrome finish on the PS3.

  3. It’ll work. You’ll get ~250GB of memory. But 20GB doesn’t have wi-fi and a card reader. And don’t buy Samsung HDD, get Western Digital instead.
