I live in the USA and have the PS2. Do I buy games with PAL or NTSC format? What do they even stand for?

I have no idea what PAL or NTSC stands for. I’m trying to get a game on ebay and some of them are in PAL format while others are in NTSC. I know it has something to do with where you live.

I live in USA so I’m wondering which format I should buy. Please help. Thanks!

  1. Meaning of the acronyms

    PAL – Phase Alternating Line

    NTSC National Television Standards Committee

PAL is used predominately in Europe, whereas NTSC would be the standard to use in North America. Think the big difference is the number of lines broadcast – 525 in PAL and 640 in NTSC (though not sure on the actual numbers)

  2. I am happy to recommend a site to you, I believe that you can find the information you want here.
