[PS3] Railfan - Chicago Brown Line

CTA Brown Line for the PS3

  1. Wow, at the beginning that's the old Fullerton station and the old "soliciting" announcement… this game had to be made before 2006. It's strange how they did this here and never made another CTA train simulator game anymore, now we got to rely on Train Simulator mods.

  2. The trains are weird. Why are there two stations virtually next to each other? It would take me 30 seconds to walk from one to another. And why are the platforms extremely long? The system also looks old.

  3. Interesting about this Railfan game–the authors use video footage of a line and scroll it like a videotape or laserdisc of old, unlike rendering graphics of the line in polygons like Train Simulator.  It does have drawbacks, though; with a prerecorded background, things like signals and switches stay in state, not dynamic like the other games.  (In the arcades, back in the 80s, Williams Electronics had a game called "Starider" were you raced a space cycle against computer-generated opponents on a "track" drawn on laserdisc.  Ground-breaking at the time.)

  4. This is the best video I've seen of the CTA! I used to operate this line in 1960s using some rather ancient rolling stock.

  5. I'd totally play this. Even though I live too close to it to justify "wondering what it's like".

  6. Simulators…Experience what you could easily accomplish in real life, by not actually doing it.

  7. I don't know how they can actually call this a game since it's only a video taken by someone sitting in the front car. Btw, I used to work for the CTA
